I hijacked this one(there is no snow now), and have added the route. I wouldn't use this if you were actually planning this trip. Roughly the canyon on the right is bear creek canyon. you go up the south side of that canyon then cut over to the north side of cherry creek canyon.
this path is referred to as the cherry creek logging road.
and goes up between both canyons.
Once it levels off a bit(after 3500 vertical feet in roughly 3 miles and your running the ridge(this is where this hike is just an ass kicker).
you drop across bear creek canyon,
climb out of bear creak and
then follow that ridge and then you come to some nice pine meadows(green dot in first picture.)
that are shielded from the wind(which include the area where outlaw cabin is. to here this is 4k feet vertical and maybe 6 miles. So, I hit the trail head at 3, assuming I could pull an hour or 2 off the estimated 5 hour hike time. at best I pulled maybe 30 minutes, and got up there about an hour before sunset. with just enough time to make a fire
and settle in for dinner
and go to sleep.
In the morning without coffee, major mistake not packing coffee, I headed up the remaining 2 miles and 1500 vertical feet.
That is the cirque to the summit. makes me tired just to see it.
This is my pack, which was roughly 20 pounds "Pack" weight(includes consumables). sub 20 pound base weight probably 15 or so, but I never weighed it. this is maybe 5-6 pounds heavier than some of my day packs. most the bulk is made up in jackets.
BTW I haven't put on a pack since. ... Wait I did do a quick hike to lake Mary the next day. I had to call the person who wanted to hike and say... "well, let me call you at 10pm and let you know how I feel." Then at 10 I said... "ok, lets plan on it, but there is a slight possibility that I'll call you in the morning and call it off.". but I didn't.
So, sad things happened in Wimbledon today... Point being I've lost interest.
Fortunately
"Le' Tour" starts tomorrow. Of course I've lost track of who the starters are prologue starts at 7am
